I use my Yaesu FT-8100R in the car as my mobile rig on 2m and 70cm. My experience is positive. It is a lot of radio at a low cost. It is fairly basic in appearence with no alpha-numeric display and few buttons. The software is however well designed, and the user interface is consistent and as intuitive one can get it with a few keys.
On the other side the hardware seems to be cut as cheap as possible. You get a 'plastic' feeling when operating the rig. Details like eg. the mechanism releasing the front panel is in plastic and should definately be in metal with springs etc to secure a long life. Another peculiar thing is that the microphone cord seems to get stuck in the front panel when attached. Also the power cord is to short if you intend to have your rig in the trunk and the display up front. Finally, if you easily strain your eyes, you are encouraged to operate the rig from your shack for a couple of weeks so you know your buttons. This may save you a road accident when looking at the display instead of the traffic.
